The Part-Time Collective Agreement was ratified today by 94% of voters province wide. Part-Time Employees now have improved employment stability, vacation pay, holiday pay, fairer hiring practices, anti-bullying language, the ability to file grievances for harassment and discrimination and all violations of their agreement, and a 1.5% pay increase retro to Jan 2, 2019, with another 1.5% coming Jan 31, 2019.
The result at Seneca was a 96.4% acceptance rate.
Now we need to elect stewards, officers and delegates to attend meetings to enforce these rights at the Local and provincial level, and to begin the work of negotiating greater improvements in January, 2021. Our Local elections will begin with a 15 day nomination period starting tomorrow, and another trip to the ballot boxes on March 21, 2019. Please stay tuned for further information and emails from Adrian Klymenko, chair of our election planning committee.
A BIG thanks to everyone who took the time to vote, mobilize co-workers to vote, complete bargaining surveys, help out at all our polling stations, and especially those who participated in the organizing drive that made this all possible.
Tomorrow will be a very special day, a new beginning for part-time college support staff at Seneca and across the province.
President, OPSEU Local 561
